City Gate Hotel has a central location, slightly off the beaten track, just a three minute’s walk from the Exeter city centre, railway station and University. Inside the venue is a bit of a Tardis, looking quite small pub from the outside, but expanding when you enter. There is a Cellar Bar partly built on the old Roman City Wall which dates back about 1200 years. Upstairs is light, airy and has an open plan bar with a small alcove. The bar passes into an eye catching conservatory which leads into the biggest beer garden in Exeter. Extremely well kept and landscaped, it is, of course, extremely popular throughout the summer months when BBQs are the order of the day. This is a great, friendly venue with a steady crowd all year round. We see everyone from 18 – 80 years old all mixing well together. We offer a traditional pub food menu with freshly prepared and cooked to order dishes available in our separate dining room. Our every changing Specials board has a minimum of six dishes daily including a combination of specialities from different countries based around British cuisine. For those wishing to prolong their visit with us there are fifteen comfortable en-suite rooms available, making us an ideal base for exploring the city. You will receive a very warm welcome at the City Gate Hotel.
