The George is located in Bathampton, between the River Avon and the Kennet and Avon Canal. Canal boats can be moored next to us. Steeped in history, this 12th Century building was originally a monastery, established by the Prior of Bath and has the traditional priest hole which runs across to the church. Bathampton itself is famous for being the site of the last dual fought in England and St Nicholas Church is where the first Governor of Australia is buried. The George is a very cosy, olde English pub which has exposed beams, open fires and lots of little rooms, nooks and crannies to provide you with your own personal space. Like all Chef & Brewer pubs we employ high quality Chefs who have superb kitchen facilities. The food can be chosen from a main menu or unique Specials from the chalk boards which allow our Chefs to show their flair. We specialise in fish dishes and usually have a choice of five or six fish of the day. You will be served meals which have been prepared from the freshest of ingredients and cooked to order. To complement your meal there is an extensive range of quality wines, or real ales served to the highest standard if you prefer. During the summer months people gravitate to the garden for al fresco dining and we also welcome people coming for a refreshing drink, many of whom have enjoyed the canal walk from Bath which takes about half an hour. If you have not found us before, put us on your ‘must try’ list and come and see us soon.
