Beckington is a village just off the A36, 10 miles from Bath and 3 miles from Frome. All roads in the village lead to The Woolpack, a 15th Century Coaching Inn where highwaymen were allowed a last drink before being led to the gallows. There is the story of one such unfortunate who, having refused his last rights, was led to the gallows to meet his death. Seconds after being hanged a messenger arrived with a royal pardon. Had he taken his last drink at the Woolpack, he would have been saved. On a lighter note, this traditional Old English Inn has an excellent friendly atmosphere where helpful staff are here to welcome you. The cuisine on offer is not just pub food and diners come from surrounding towns and villages to eat here. Meals at the Woolpack, which include our own Specials board, can be enjoyed in the Oak Room, are freshly prepared and cooked to a very high standard with fresh ingredients. Food is chosen from a wide menu including a soup and fish of the day. We cook our own homemade, mouthwatering sausages and bake our own bread actually at the Woolpack. Both are always very popular. Wine to accompany your meal or enjoy by itself, comes from a choice of 38 bins, so you should be able to find a wine to suit your taste. Eleven rooms, all with individual character, are homely and comfortable with mod cons for your convenience. Our four attic rooms with eves and beams have lots of style. Dogs are allowed in some of the bedrooms so please do not hesitate to ask. Functions can be catered for here with a room for up to 40 people seated. Popular for weddings, birthdays, etc, there is of course the added bonus of being able to stay here after the party. At the Woolpack you can enjoy the beer garden or terraced garden in the summer and a cosy real fire in the winter. If you are joining us for an overnight stay, meal or just a drink, everyone will be made to feel welcome.
