The Shoulder of Mutton is situated to the top of the small village of Wendover next to the railway station. The venue was first recorded on the map in 1620 when it was central to the herding of livestock in the area. It was known as the Railway Hotel in years gone by. Today, this relaxed venue gives an informal dining experience. There is no need to book which allows for that ‘last minute’ enjoyment of an impromptu meal out. The whole place has a lovely ambiance which is increased during the winter by the real fires. There are low, beamed ceilings, nooks and crannies with different sized tables for privacy and candles on the tables to complete the cosy, inviting picture. Like all Chef & Brewer pubs we employ high quality Chefs who have superb kitchen facilities. The food can be chosen from a main menu or unique Specials from the chalk boards which allow our Chefs to show their flair. You will be served meals which have been prepared from the freshest of ingredients and cooked to order. To complement your meal there is an extensive choice of quality wines. For the connoisseurs of real ale, we are Cask Marque accredited, which ensures that your pint is served in tip top condition. During the summer the large garden and patio are very popular with families, allowing the children space to run off some energy whilst their parents chill out in the sunshine. A number of our clientele are local regulars, often commuters who call in on their way home in the early evening. It is a 35 minute train journey to Marylebone in London. This is a pub to put on your ‘must try’ list. The marvellous team give a really friendly welcome to all. When visiting you can expect ‘old fashioned values with modern day standards’.
